Examples include mixtures, suspensions, ointments, suppositories, troches, lotions, paints and creams).  More information about Compounding.
  2. Ready-made items (Coming soon via online store):  Prescription Only medicines that are on the ARTG and commercially available are listed in our online store.

Pricing – Compounded Items

The price for compounded medicine varies with quantity and strength, and sometimes the urgency of your requirement.

Compounded medicines must be quoted individually. The cost may be subsidised by private health funds or, in limited circumstances, by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

Pricing – Ready-made Items (Coming soon: order via our online store)

Pricing of Prescription Only medications is complex and depends on several factors. For simplicity, we show only one price per product in our online store.

Non-PBS Products:  The retail price.

PBS Products:  The price that applies to a Concession Patient buying one script.

More Information

The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) subsidises the cost of many medications in Australia.  Information about the PBS and pricing can be found here.

Prescription Only medications listed in our online store are labelled as Non-PBS or PBS:

Non-PBS A Prescription Only medicine that is not listed on the PBS.  No subsidy is available to any patient ordering this type of medicine.

PBS A Prescription Only medicine that is listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. A subsidy might be available to a patient ordering this type of medicine.

Pricing – According to Patient Status

The following prices apply to patients ordering PBS-subsidised medications:

  1. Private Patient – does not hold a Medicare card and pays the full price for a medication.
  2. General Patient – holds a Medicare card and pays up to the co-payment limit of $31.60 per prescription
  3. Concession Patient – holds valid Medicare and concession cards. Pays $7.70 (plus and brand or therapeutic premium) per prescription
  4. Closing the Gap General Patient – holds a valid Medicare card and is registered with CTG. Pays $7.70 (plus any brand or therapeutic premium) per prescription
  5. Closing the Gap Concession Patient – holds valid Medicare and concession cards and is registered with CTG. Pays $0.00 (plus any brand or therapeutic premium) per prescription.
  6. Safety Net Patient – holds valid Medicare and safety net entitlement cards. Pays $0.00 (plus any brand or therapeutic premium) per prescription.

A Private Patient is one who does not hold the necessary card(s) to attract a subsidy or who is purchasing a Non-PBS Prescription Only Product.

Advertising Restrictions

The TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) restricts advertising of many Prescription Only Products.  Packaging and treatment information is not allowed to be shown to the public.  A price list is allowed to be shown.

Many products just have this identifier.  Consult with your GP for details about particular medicines.
